Frequently Asked Questions
-
We find that most students are ready to start learning guitar by Age 8. We do not take any students under the age of 7 years old.
-
We require all students with their own guitar at home. Having said this we will provide a guitar to use in the trial lesson. We give you advice on purchasing a guitar during your trial lesson and we'll make a recommendation on the correct size after we've met and assessed your child.
-
We often hear adult students worry about their hands being too small to play guitar. When it comes to kids, everyone has small hands, so it's not an issue! We take a simplified approach to learning that focuses on what success looks like at this level of development and account for the size of our hands and the level of motor control we have at a given period of development. We'll also make recommendations on what size guitar to buy so that you have a suitable instrument to learn on.
-
Research shows that children learn best when the frequency of learning is high. This is why your children learn Maths and English at school every day. All of our students must commit to at least one lesson per week. We actually encourage all of our students to do at least two lessons per week and have special programs for students who want to learn at an accelerated pace.

Learning the guitar is a unique journey for each individual, and the time it takes to become proficient varies. Factors such as practice consistency, dedication, and natural aptitude can influence the learning process. At Miralles Music Academy, our experienced instructors tailor lessons to suit each student's pace and goals. We encourage patience and commitment as your child progresses on their musical journey. For a more personalized estimate of your child's learning timeline, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our instructors.

The idea that children need to start on an acoustic guitar and work their way up to an electric guitar is a myth. If your child listens to primarily rock, metal, and other electric guitar-based music then we recommend they begin on electric guitar straight away (provided you have the budget to do so). If your child listens to primarily acoustic-based music (and/or you have a lower budget for an instrument) then we recommend starting on an acoustic guitar. There are a variety of 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 size guitars for kids and we're more than happy to provide far more detailed advice on purchasing guitars over the phone or in your trial session.
